Where Are the PSI Real Estate Test Centers in New Jersey?
The short answer: PSI's New Jersey candidate bulletin lists nine test centers for the real estate exam: Brick, Hamilton Township (Hamilton Square area), Marlton, North Brunswick, New Providence, Linwood (Northfield area), Rochelle Park, Parsippany and Secaucus (PSI candidate bulletin). You don't have to use any of them. The exam can also be taken remotely with an online proctor (NJREC), and PSI says you may test at its centers in other states too.
This page is the location index: where each center is, how to choose between a center and remote testing, and the logistics that matter on the day. For exam format, content and scoring, see our NJ real estate exam (PSI) guide.

Can you take the exam somewhere else?
Yes, in two ways:
- Remote online proctoring. NJREC confirms candidates can take the salesperson exam remotely or in person at a PSI center (NJREC).
- PSI centers in other states. PSI says it has examination centers "in many other regions across the United States" and that you may take this exam at any of them. After you pay, you enter your ZIP code and PSI shows the closest sites (PSI candidate bulletin). That can help if you live near a state line or are temporarily out of state.
Should you test at a center or remotely?
The bulletin's rules point to some practical differences (PSI candidate bulletin):
| Test center | Remote proctored | |
|---|---|---|
| Scratch paper | One sheet and a pencil, returned at check-out | Not allowed |
| Breaks | Restroom only with proctor permission; no extra time | No breaks. PSI says don't register remotely if you can't finish without one |
| Equipment | PSI's computer | Your computer, webcam and internet; run PSI's compatibility check first |
| Arrival | Arrive 30 minutes early for sign-in | Launch from your PSI account at your booked time; not starting within 15 minutes after it forfeits the fee |
Since the exam allows 4 hours (PSI candidate bulletin), the no-break rule is the deciding factor for many people. If you rely on scratch work for math, the scratch paper rule matters too. Our guide to real estate math on the NJ exam covers those calculations.
How do you book a specific test center?
You can't book until your school has sent your eligibility to PSI after you complete the 75-hour course (PSI candidate bulletin). Then:
- Go to test-takers.psiexams.com/njre and create an account. Your first and last name must exactly match your government-issued ID.
- Choose Test Center as the format.
- Enter a city or postal code, select Find, and pick a date and time.
- Pay. You'll get a message confirming the test center, date and time.
You can also register by phone at (855) 579-4634. Live registrars are available Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 10:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm Eastern. You'll need a Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. For the exam fee, check PSI's current fee on the registration page.
Keep your one-year deadline in mind when you pick a date. You have one year from your course completion date to pass the exam and file your license application (NJREC). Our licensing timeline guide shows how to plan around it.
What should you know before going to a center?
All of these come from the PSI candidate bulletin:
- ID: one current, government-issued ID with your name, signature and photo, such as a state driver's license, state ID card or U.S. passport. Temporary IDs aren't accepted. If your name has changed, bring official documentation such as a marriage license or divorce decree.
- Arrival: come 30 minutes early. If you arrive after the start time, you may not be admitted and you forfeit the fee.
- Companions: people who come with you, including drivers, family, friends or instructors, can't wait in the center, inside the building or on the building's property. Plan your ride accordingly.
- Personal items: phones, electronic or smart watches, bags, wallets, food, drinks and similar items can't be within your reach or line of sight. Use the storage provided or leave them in your car.
What if you need to cancel, or the center closes?
- Cancel at least 2 days ahead. For a Monday appointment, cancel on or before the previous Saturday. Use PSI's website or call (855) 579-4634. Voicemail cancellations don't count.
- Late cancellations and no-shows forfeit the exam fee, as do arriving late and showing up without proper ID.
- Weather or emergency closures: if a site closes on your exam date, PSI reschedules you and will try to contact you. You can check your status by calling PSI or visiting the PSI website.
- Accommodations: PSI centers are equipped for ADA access. If you need testing accommodations, request alternative arrangements through PSI (the bulletin links the request form).

Once you pass, our guide to what happens after the exam walks through fingerprinting and your license application. To get ready for test day, PSI sells its own online practice exams, and Business Elementary offers a practice exams course and the 75-hour pre-licensing course.
